    Mary K. Gillis 26                              1945-13-11
                                            September 27, 1945
    Gillisdale, Inverness County
    Boston, MA

The many friends and relatives of Mary K. Gillis, formerly of Gillisdale, Inv. Co., were shocked to hear the news of her untimely death in Boston City Hospital, Aug. 31, 1945. Deceased was the daughter of Gillis Gillis and the late Mrs. Gillis, Gillisdale, and was in her twenty-sixth year.
Three years ago she left the home of her happy childhood, among the hills and dales of Gillisdale, to sojourn in the United States. She was a young lady of sterling moral character, industrious, with a kind, gentle and unassuming disposition; always strictly adhering to her religious duties. A short time before her death she underwent a nose and throat operation and appeared to have made a satisfactory recovery. She left the hospital for her sister’s home, Mrs. James M. MacNeil, Roxbury, Mass. A few days later she suffered a relapse which necessitated her removal to Boston City Hospital where she peacefully departed from this world in the prime of her life, consoled by the last rites of Holy Mother Church.
Her remains were conveyed to her home in Gillisdale, accompanied by her sister, Mrs. Margaret S. Gillis, Gillisdale, who was visiting in the U.S. at the time; by a sister, Miss Christena, Roxbury, Mass; another sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. James M. MacNeil, Roxbury; a niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. John R. MacGillivray, Roxbury. A brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allan Gillis, Boxford, Mass., were visiting in Gillisdale at the time of her death. The large number of friends who assembled to pay a last fond tribute of respect to her remains before they left the United States, and on arrival at her home in Gillisdale, and the large number of Mass cards received testify to the esteem in which she was held.
She is survived by her father, Gillis Gillis, Gillisdale, four sisters and sic brothers: Mrs. Margaret S. Gillis, Gillisdale; Mrs. James M. MacNeil, Roxbury; Christena, Roxbury; Annie at home; Allan, Boxford, Mass; Archie and Neil, Sydney; D.A. a patient in St. Mary’s Hospital, Inverness; Hugh A. and Alex at home. Her mother died several years ago, also a brother John Charlie, merchant, Gillisdale.
Her largely attended funeral was held Tuesday morning. Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, S.W. Margaree, by Rev. J.A. Gillis, P.P., St. Lawrence, cousin of the deceased, with Rev. J.H. MacEachen, P.P., S.W. Margaree, as deacon, and Rev. John Angus Rankin as sub-deacon. Her remains were tenderly laid to rest in St. Joseph’s cemetery, Fr. MacEachen and Fr. Gillis officiating at the grave.
Pall-bearers were James M. MacNeil, James Gillis, Angus R. Gillis, Ronald Gillis, John MacFarlane and Alexander Smith. R.I.P.2
