Mary C. MacFarlane, 92, of New Bedford passed away Sunday, November 7, 2010 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health.
Mary, the daughter of Joseph A. and Annie B. MacFarlane, was born on September 14, 1918 in New Bedford where she resided her entire life. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and was a devout communicant of St. Lawrence Martyr Church. Mary retired from the New England Telephone Company as a supervisor after many years of dedicated service.
Mary was the matriarch of the MacFarlane family and was very proud of her Scottish heritage. She enjoyed traveling, following her favorite sports teams, and keeping current on local and world news. She was a member of the Telephone Company Pioneers
Mary's greatest enjoyments were the many friends and family that visited her often. She was a much loved sister, aunt, and great aunt. Mary leaves her four nieces, Anne Albino and her husband Donald of John's Creek, Georgia, Mary Ellen Gamache and her husband George of Mashpee, Janet MacFarlane of Dartmouth, and Susan MacFarlane Dawson of New Bedford; as well as her sister-in-law Mary MacFarlane of John's Creek, Georgia and her godson John Reed of San Francisco, California.
In addition to her parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Joseph and William MacFarlane and William's wife, Florence.
The family wishes to express appreciation to all of Mary's friends and caregivers for their commitment, kindness, and support.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.7 - Burial*: She was buried after 7 November 2010 in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, USA; MEMORIAL ID 114506769.9

There died at Salt Springs, Antigonish County, in her 87th year, after a brief illness Sarah, relict of the late Dougald Cameron – a brother of our venerated Bishop. The deceased, a daughter of Alexander Macdonald and Catherine Kennedy, Fort William, Scotland, was born in this county at the old Gulf Road. She was married in 1835 to Dougald Cameron South River, by whom she had a family of six sons and five daughters, all of whom except John, the eldest, survive her. Besides these, she leaves to mourn her loss, sixty-two grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren, not to mention a host of friends, to all of whom she endeared herself – by her sweet womanly ways – her never-failing (obituary notice ends.)2 - Biography*: "A convert to the Catholic faith at an early age, she ever proved herself a fervent devoted member of the Church. She herself attributed her predilection to the faith to an interview she had when but a child with ... Bishop Fraser..."1
