    Roderick William Coady, 90, Margaree Forks, died April 20th, 2004 in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born in Margaree Forks on July 9th, 1913, he was a son of the late Peter Pat and Rebecca (McDaniel) Coady. As a young man, he completed high school at Mabou Convent and taught in rural schools in Inverness and Victoria Counties for a number of years. Following service overseas with the Canadian Army, he trained as a land surveyor at Lawrencetown in 1947. He then joined the Department of Highways, working throughout Nova Scotia until his retirement in 1978. Rod took great pride in his family and in his community and was very involved in the establishment of the Drs. Coady and Tompkins Memorial Library at Margaree Forks in the mid-1970s. He was a member of St. Michael’s Parish, Margaree, and a member of Royal Canadian Legion Branch 32 – Cheticamp. He is survived by his wife, the former Gertrude Walsh; daughter, Eileen (Wayne Robicheau), Yarmouth; son, Bill (Nancy Campbell), Port Hawkesbury; grandchildren, Michael, Angela, Dylan, Caitlyn, and Moses; two great-grandchildren; brother, David (Wanda) Sydney River; sister-in-law, Jane Coady, Sydney; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Jessie Coady and Margaret MacDonald and brothers Patrick, Moses, Lawrence, Matthew, Peter, John and Daniel. Visitation was held on Thursday, April 22nd at the Inverness Funeral Home. A funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 23rd at St. Michael’s Church, Margaree, Father J.J. MacDonald officiating. Interment(sic) was in the parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Inverness Funeral Home. Donations in Rod’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Margaree Area Development Association or a charity of your choice.
