  22 May 1999 - Colonel Chisholm had been Deputy Director, Medical Services, overseas during WWI. He graduated in Medicine from McGill in 1905 and joined the permanent Army Medical Corps in 1910. At the outbreak of WWI he was the first Officer to arrive at Valcartier in uniform where he was appointed to supervise sanitation. Following WWI he was Inspector of Health for Nova Scotia until 1928.
  
  18 Nov 2003 - Allan Gillis found a September 9, 1915, Casket Article describing how Dr. Chisholm received the Distinguished Service Order from the King at Windsor Castle on August 30, 1915. He held the rank of Major at that time.
  
  Notes for MARY EULALIA SMYTH:
  31 March 2000 - Mary Eulalia graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1901 and was the eleventh female to graduate from this University. Later she took up Nursing at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Despite already having a child, she was able to serve overseas during WWI as a Nursing Sister. A son, Hugh Alexander, was born in England during WWI. He studied Medicine at Dalhousie and eventually became Surgeon in Chief at the Vancouver General Hospital.
  
  12 Nov 2002 - DJC had presumed that she went overseas during WWI attached to the Canadian Forces but today on she was stated to have been a member of the U. S. Marine Corps. This Web Site showed Catholics of the Antigonish Diocese who had served during WWI.
  
  Marriage Notes for COLONEL CHISHOLM and MARY SMYTH:
  31 March 2000 - They were married in Port Hood by Msgr. Colin Chisholm. The Best Man was Dr. Ronald St. John MacDonald and Ita Smyth was the Bridesmaid. Dr. MacDonald was from Bailey's Brook in Pictou County and at one time assisted Dr. Duncan MacIntosh Chisholm in Port Hood. Dr. MacDonald also served overseas during WWI with Dr. Hugh Alexander Chisholm, becoming a Colonel as well. He later taught Medicine at McGill.¹
