The system was called the “ambrotype,” the impression being made of glass, and preceded the “tintype” and “photograph.” It was while engaged in this work he met Alex. McDonald (Bard na Ceapach) invited him into his saloon, took his picture and presented it to him. This, of course, was a good inspiration for the bard, and he composed a very amusing song on the occasion."1

He was married to a Miss Wells of Guysborough, who with several young children were visiting at his brother Angus’ at Caledonia Mills, when the fond husband and father was lost. The widow and children resided for a year or so afterwards in Guysboro Town, but went back to Cape Ann again.1,4
