    Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan

    The death of a former Antigonish resident and well known Saskatchewan Barrister occurred Monday night at his home in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan. He was J. A. Boyd, son of the late Angus Boyd, one time publisher of The Casket, and Katherine MacGregor. Mr. Boyd died as the result of a heart attack.
    John Boyd, the founder of The Casket, was his uncle.

    The deceased was graduated from St. F. X. University in 1895, and from Dalhousie Law School. He practiced in Antigonish for a number of years before moving West in 1914, where he opened a flourishing law practice in Blaine Lake.

    Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife, the former Jean MacManus of New Brunswick, four sons; Dr. Angus and Dr. Donald, both of Saskatoon, Father Leo, a member of the Oblate order, and Duncan at home. Two daughters also survive. They are Mary, LL.B., Ottawa, and Jean, at home.

    The funeral was held Wednesday at Blaine Lake and the remains will be sent to Antigonish for burial.

    Funeral services were held last week for John Albert Boyd, whose death at Blaine Lake, Sask., was earlier reported in The Casket.

    Mr. Boyd, a 78-year-old barrister, was the nephew of The Casket’s founder, John Boyd, and the son of the paper’s second publisher, Angus Boyd.

    The funeral was held from MacIsaac’s Funeral Home. Services at the grave in St. Ninian’s cemetery was conducted by Father Peter Nearing, P.P., Arisaig, assisted by Dr. H. J. Somers, Rt. Rev. P. J. Nicholson and Father W. J. Gallivan.

    Pallbearers were Alex MacGillivray, Colin MacIsaac, Will Archibald, Norman Cunningham, Leslie Cunningham, and Dan Gillis.

    Surviving are: his widow, Mrs. Jean Boyd, Blaine Lake; two daughters and five sons, Betty, Mark and Jan attending the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon; Mrs. Mary Dantzer; Edmonton. Alta; Rev Father Leo Boyd. O. M. I., of Battleford, Sask; Dr. Angus Boyd, Winnipeg, Mann.(sic), and Dr. Donald Boyd, Saskatoon.

    Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated on Wednesday, February 24th, ay 10:30 a.m., in St. Andrew’s Church, Blaine Lake, by Rev. Father Leo Boyd, O. M. I., son of the deceased; assisted by Deacon Rev. Father G. Kuckartz, O. M. I; and Sub-deacon Rev. Father B. A. Prince, O. M. I. Also in the Sanctuary were Rev. Father Leopold Engel, O. M. I., Superior of St. Charles Scholasticate, Battleford; Rev. Father M. Warnke, O. M. I., Superior of St. Thomas College, North Battleford; and Parish Priest Rev. Father Timmermans. Pallbearers were: N. Slyka, J. J. MacIsaac, J. J. Coflin, Albert Horner, Paul Rehan and A. J. Hanson.3
