    " Note: Saturday December 16, 1933, Victoria Inverness Bulletin, page 3. ARCHIBALD MACLELLAN - The community was shocked on Sunday afternoon, December 10th, to learn of the sudden death of one of its most respected citizens in the person of Archibald MacLellan, of Belle Cote, aged 87 years. For a few days previously Mr. MacLellan had not been feeling as well as usual, but was able to be up and while eating dinner on Sunday, he suffered a heart attack and the end came within a few minutes. Mr. MacLellan was a Crown Land surveyor, which work he did up until a few years ago. He was always active in any move which was for the welfare of the community. He was a warden of St. Michael's Church, East Margaree. He is survived by four daughters, Katie, Mrs. Daegle (sic), in the United States; Flora, Mrs. John H. McDougall, Margaree Harbour, and Tena, Mrs. Ned LeBlanc, Belle Cote. Another daughter, Mae, Mrs. Michael Tompkins, East Margaree, predeceased him eight years ago. Two sons, John of Belle Cote and Dan, of Toronto, also survive. A son, Ronald, was killed in the Great War. Mrs. MacLellan, also predeceased him by a number of years. The funeral will be held on Tuesday at St. Michael's Church, East Margaree.3

  • Birth*: James MacLellan was born circa 1770 in Buirblack, Inverness-shire, Scotland.1
  • Death*: He died after 1841.1
  • Biography*: In 1826 James McLellen his wife and his son Angus, and two daughters, uncle and cousins, respectively, of the McLellan brothers, John and Malcolm, the pioneer educationists of Eastern Nova Scotia, as they might have been called, came here from Morar. He was married to Ann McDonald (Anna neigh’n Raghail). The daughters married James McDonald and Angus Gillis, Salmon River, Cape Breton Co. This James McLellan was also the paternal uncle of the wife of John McLellan, big, (Iain mac Aoghnais ic Neil) who lived at Rear Broad Cove, of the mother of Angus McDougall’s wife, S.W. Margaree, and of the mother of John McLellan’s wife, Deepdale, (John the miller). He was also the maternal uncle of Alexander Gillis (mac Iainic Alasdair) and of red John, Angus, James, Ann, wife of James Gillis, and Catherine wife of Malcolm McFarlane, brothers and sisters respectively of Alexander above mentioned, and the grand uncle of William Gillis, Little Mabou.1
